Sewer camera inspection
Camera down the line to find the problem
Sample pricing — illustrative only, not an offer.
A pro runs a waterproof camera down your sewer or drain line to see inside the pipe and find the problem — a clog, roots, a collapsed or bellied section, or a break. This is inspection and diagnosis, not the repair itself.
What's included
- A waterproof camera on a flexible cable run down your sewer or drain line
- A visual diagnosis of what's wrong — a clog, roots, a collapsed or bellied section, or a break — and where
- The problem's location often marked from the surface
- Inspection and diagnosis only; the repair is a separate, approved job
- You should be able to see the footage — ask for a copy for your records
What to expect
Typical time on site: about 30–60 min
- The pro feeds the camera through a cleanout (usually 30–60 minutes)
- They watch the monitor for clogs, roots, or breaks
- They can often mark the spot and depth of a problem from the surface
- You see the footage; the base price covers inspection and diagnosis only
- Any clearing or repair the camera reveals is a separate, approved job you okay in the app
Good to know
- Book this if drains back up repeatedly, several fixtures back up at once, you get gurgling and sewage smells, or you're buying a home and want the sewer line checked before closing
- It's a smart, low-pressure way to know what you're actually dealing with before paying for a repair — especially before buying a home
- Not a DIY job (the equipment is specialized). If a company offers a 'free' inspection but pushes an expensive dig, get the footage and a second opinion
- The line has to be reasonably clear for the camera to see — sometimes a basic clearing has to happen first, which the pro will tell you
Price range explained
You're toward the low end for a quick look through an existing cleanout, and toward the high end when there's no easy access, the line is long, or locating and marking the defect's depth is included. The pre-visit price is a range confirmed on arrival, and whatever repair the camera reveals is quoted and approved separately — never a hidden gateway to unapproved work.
